Core Services

Core services are made available to a cross-disabled population and their families based on need rather than on the type of disability.

Independent Living Skills Training

We can provide services necessary to pursue an individual’s independent living goals.  These services may be provided in either a one-to-one or small-group format.

  • Independent Living Services may include:

    Independent Living Skills Training
    Independent Living Assistance
    Attendant Management Training
    Youth Services

Peer Consultation
Conversation and interaction is promoted between newly disabled individuals and persons with disabilities who have positive attitudes and are successful at dealing with disability issues.  Peer consultation covers adjustment to disability issues and may include training on specific independent living techniques.

Information and Referral

On My Own, Inc. can provide a consumer with a wide variety of information relating to disabilities.  Referrals to other appropriate agencies are provided as needed.  Assistance is available in locating housing, adaptive aids, recreational opportunities, readers, interpreters, transportation and support groups.

Individual & Systems Advocacy

On My Own, Inc. provides systems advocacy in regard to public policy issues.  Public policy issues include, but are not limited to the following; equal opportunities for housing, transportation, employment and access to community activities and public services.  The ADA and Section 504 provide much of the basis for our work in individual and systems advocacy.
